Construction

Developed for the Saint Joseph de Tivoli school complex in Bordeaux, this project involves the thorough restructuring of the school’s main entrance. The everyday access and flows of students and staff will be facilitated by the creation of a walkway that crosses the existing courtyard. Our design will provide a new reception lobby for the school, along with classrooms, reception rooms, and areas for additional services. Some of the rooms in the existing buildings will be refurbished and transformed to host new usages. The ground-floor façade facing the street will bear a new cut-stone surface that is more contemporary and reflective of the dynamic nature of this school complex.

Construction

Construction is taking place while the site is occupied, which rendered its access complex. This required highly precise planning that will take full advantage of the summer vacation to complete the project by the time students return in the fall. The new building will be inserted into the courtyard, the space of which will otherwise be cleared.

Plan

The framework radiating outward from the courtyard guides our work, especially the creation of a circulation that connects the portico to the building that looks out onto the schoolyard.

The new building inserted into the centre of the courtyard will support the walkway leading to the building, and part of it will be completely landscaped.

The reception of students, their parents, and the staff will be improved with the addition of a lobby and reception spaces.
